Photographer Louis, shares with us his experiences on a long holiday in Taipei.

I was greeted with a warm summer air upon my arrival to Taipei. I immediately felt a positive welcome, everyone I met in the first hour, airport officials, taxi drivers, and hotel concierge, were so nice and polite.

When the morning came, I was excited to see a mix of urban city life adjacent to plush palm trees and beautiful floral – everywhere! Also, not to mention all the ancient and historic sites nearby. We visited Jiufen and explored the tight alleyways. Had the best stinky tofu there, loved the food my entire trip. There aren’t pictures of what I ate, but it was probably one of the top highlights! The local cuisine is second to none!

It was such a pleasure shooting street scenes in Taipei, too. I felt there was fashion influence from their Hong Kong and Japan neighbors, but somehow everyone had their own style and flare. From the older men on their mopeds, to the cute 20-something girls, there was a sense of individualism I definitely came to appreciate.

Although my stay was short and for work purposes, I really did enjoy the experience. Great food, great hospitality, cool nightlife, great landscapes, and most importantly, genuinely nice and happy people.
