When you want to find completely unique accommodations, The Ice Hotel should be at the top of the list. Located in Jukkasjärvi, a tiny village town in Northern Sweden, the hotel is truly one of a kind! Construction on the hotel begins each year between November and December and accommodates guests from December through the middle of April. Once the temperatures warm up, the ice melts and flows into the Torne River. The hotel is built using 1,000 tonnes of ice from the River and 30,000 tonnes of ‘snice’, which is a snow/ice mixture created to reinforce the construction. Each room is custom designed by prestigious artists from around the world, with unique themes and style. An example is this custom ice dragon sculpture, in the dragon residence, Mongolian themed.
Aside from staying in a stunning hotel, visitors come each year to enjoy the quiet beauty of Northern Sweden and capture a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Guests have a choice between ‘cold’ accommodations, which feature the rooms and furniture sculpted out of ice, ensuite sauna and luxurious bedding, or the ‘warm’ accommodations, which offer stylish furnishings in a traditional hotel setting or individual cabins.
Another highlight is the ICEBAR, the original ice experience, equipped with ice-made glasses and custom cocktails. When you want to experience a hotel that you won’t find anywhere else in the world, visiting The Ice Hotel during a trip to Sweden or Lapland is a must!
