Established in 2009, this uber cool café and bar is located in the center of Berlin, where it was once a bookstore and warehouse, but is now transformed into a local hotspot for residents and visitors alike. The name, literally translates into “my house by the sea”. It is, in my opinion, a symbol of Berlin coolness.

The main room in the place is decorated with old vintage furniture and there are cushions on the backs of the seats for comfort and style. Occasionally, live sets and DJs provide entertainment to visitors in the cafe. A second room was specifically made for smokers and is separated from the main room with a glass wall and door. Some have called the style in Mein Haus am See ‘flea market chic’, and I think that quite accurately describes it – the eclectic decor creates a quirky, but fun, ambiance.

The café features an industrial design with unfinished walls, which are being used as canvas by art students and anyone who loves to sketch and is confident enough to draw on the walls should do so! It’s a great place to go to work, drink, or simply find entertainment.

As the sun starts to go down in the evening, the feel of the bar/café comes out and the drinks begin to flow. The place gets super busy at night. DJs come out on Thursday nights to play some tunes for customers to enjoy with their drinks. The best part of Mein Haus am See is it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you always have somewhere to go to relax, socialize, or work.
